Valley Green Bank opened its doors in November 2005 operating as an independent bank until it merged with Univest Bank and Trust Co. at the beginning of 2015. For 10 years Valley Green Bank thrived as a community bank in part due to the close relationship that it established with the neighbors and businesses in its core marketplace – Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill. Valley Green Bank will always be grateful and appreciative for this close relationship and the outpouring of support that it received from these communities for those 10 years.
To honor this history, Valley Green Bank’s board and staff decided to give a gift to the community that would commemorate this appreciation and meaningful connection.
As you know, the pergola and arch at the intersection of Cresheim Valley Drive and Germantown Avenue are historical structures that provide a gateway to Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy. For Valley Green Bank this was a significant crossroads and the perfect spot for Valley Green Bank to restore and make more beautiful.
We worked with key stakeholders on this project – first and foremost The Rotary Club of Chestnut Hill which has maintained the pergola, doing seasonal plantings and routine cleanups for many many years. We hired the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) to manage this project which consisted of landscaping to remove unwanted trees and vegetation; pointing and securing all the masonry and cleaning the structures; and rebuilding major parts of the wooden pergolas. The Mt. Airy BID has taken on the responsibility of keeping the monument clean and watering the newly planted landscape. And, the Chestnut Hill Community Fund awarded the Chestnut Hill Rotary with a generous grant to further support this renovation.
Attached is an invitation to the Ribbon Cutting. We so hope you can join in the celebration…Thank you.
