Saturdays are Great Days for Fall Cleaning

Friends of the Wissahickon Hosts 2 Large-scale Cleanups – November 11 and 18

PHILADELPHIA – November 1, 2023 – During this season of giving, say thank you to the Wissahickon by volunteering at one (or both) of Friends of the Wissahickon’s (FOW) upcoming large-scale Saturday cleanup events.

November 11

As part of Philadelphia’s annual week-long Love Your Park celebration of the city’s amazing parks, FOW will be performing a series of tasks in the Historic Rittenhouse Town area, including litter cleanup, trail work, and improvements to stormwater infrastructure.

November 18

Lincoln Drive, the only main road that runs along the Wissahickon Creek within Wissahickon Valley Park, is the site of extensive trash that collects along this heavily traveled roadway. Once again, FOW is partnering with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Historic Rittenhouse Town to close Lincoln Drive from Wissahickon Avenue to Ridge Avenue and is seeking volunteers to help keep this section of the creek clean and beautiful.

Both events run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. No experience is needed. We provide gloves, tools, and instruction. Volunteer Service Days are fun, productive, and essential ways to help FOW take care of Wissahickon Valley Park. Wear sturdy footwear and long pants and bring a water bottle. Detailed information and the specific meeting locations will be sent by email to registrants the day before each event. For more information contact Amelia Marren at marren@fow.org.

To register, visit fow.org/events.

NOTE: Lincoln Drive will be closed to all traffic in both directions between Johnson Street and Ridge Avenues /Kelly Drive on November 18, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should allow more time to get around the area.
