Friends of the Wissahickon Closes Lincoln Dr. for Large Cleanup

Volunteers needed to help keep Wissahickon Valley Park Beautiful

PHILADELPHIA – March 14, 2023 – Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) and partners at Philadelphia Parks & Recreation will close Lincoln Drive from Wissahickon Ave. to Ridge Ave. for a large-scale litter cleanup on Saturday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to Noon. Volunteers are needed to help clear the extensive trash that collects along this heavily traveled roadway, which is the only main road that runs along the Wissahickon Creek within the Wissahickon Valley Park.

This is FOW’s third Lincoln Drive cleanup event, at which hundreds of volunteers have participated as both a fun and effective way to help take care of the Wissahickon for everyone to enjoy.

Volunteers will start from one of two meeting locations located at both ends of the cleanup area – Historic Rittenhouse Town and the Philadelphia Canoe Club — and work toward each other on Lincoln Drive. No experience is needed and gloves, trash bags, trash grabbers, and instruction will be provided. Wear sturdy footwear and long pants, and bring a water bottle.

Volunteers must pre-register for one of the meeting locations and sign a volunteer agreement and release before being allowed to join the cleanup. Visit fow.org/lincoln-drive-clean-up-2023/ to register. In the event of heavy rain and high wind, cancellation will be posted on FOW’s website and social media.
