Friends of the Wissahickon Celebrates Earth Day and its 100th Anniversary with a Super Mega Service Day – 4/20

1 Service Event  – 5 Locations

PHILADELPHIA – March 20, 2024– Earth Day is always a special day for Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW), but this year it will be a super mega day. The organization is celebrating Earth Day and its 100th anniversary on Saturday, April 20, with a multi-location service day across the Wissahickon with a variety of projects that help clean and beautify the park.

Sign up to join FOW at one of these five locations from 9 a.m. to Noon:

>Bells Mill Road and Forbidden Drive – for a mix of litter cleanup and park beautification

>Valley Green – for cleaning out stormwater infrastructure

>Harvey Street – for planting site maintenance, trail work, and invasive plant removal

>Blue Bell Park – for park beautification, litter cleanup, and cleaning out stormwater infrastructure

>Ridge Avenue Trailhead – litter cleanup and cleaning up the paved bike path

No experience is needed. FOW provides gloves, tools and instruction. Wear sturdy footwear and long pants, and bring a water bottle. FOW Volunteer Service Days not only provide a direct role in keeping the park cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful, they’re also fun and a great way to meet like-minded park stewards.
