Award-winning pianist Richard Dowling to perform at Chestnut Hill College’s Steinway Artist Concert

Award-winning pianist Richard Dowling will perform at Chestnut Hill College’s upcoming Steinway Artist Concert, an annual tradition featuring piano recitals from the world’s foremost musicians.

The college hosts this year’s Steinway Artist Concert on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 3:00 p.m. in the East Parlor of Saint Joseph Hall. The concert series began in 2012 and features global pianists who were chosen to perform exclusively on a Steinway piano. It is free and open to the public, although seating is limited.

Hailed by The New York Times as an “especially impressive, fine pianist,” Dowling appears regularly across the United States and throughout the world in orchestral performances, solo recitals, and chamber music collaborations. He is renowned for his elegant and charismatic style of pianism, with a repertoire that features the works of Chopin, Gershwin, American ragtime, and French Impressionism. He has been awarded first place in, among others, the San Antonio International Keyboard Competition, the New Orleans International Piano Competition, and the Oklahoma Symphony Concerto Competition. Furthermore, Dowling is the recipient of a special award from the National Federation of Music Clubs in recognition of his outstanding performances of American music.

Formally recognized as Steinway & Sons, Steinway is an award-winning American-German piano company that makes pianos of the highest quality. The company is often labelled as one of the “Big Four” piano manufacturers in existence. A working Steinway has remained in the White House since 1938.

Chestnut Hill College is designated as an All-Steinway School. The company bestows the honor upon educational institutions whose piano collection comprises no less than 90 percent of Steinways.

Chestnut Hill College hosts the Annual Steinway Artist Concert on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 3:00 p.m. in the East Parlor of Saint Joseph Hall.
