November is here and everyone’s calendars are filling up with all the great activities and events here in Chestnut Hill. Be sure to save the dates of these special holiday season events. You can learn more about each of them later in the newsletter.

Circle of Trees – holiday treats, beautiful lights, live music and a visit from Santa – November 19th

Holiday Parade – floats, bands, local groups, and you know who! – December 10th

Chestnut Hill Business Association’s Holiday on the Hill – great shopping, festive dining, caroling, music & entertainment and much more – November 19th – December 25th.

On a less festive note – fall brings beautiful colors to our trees resulting in many, many fallen leaves to rake and dispose of. Keep reading to learn about Philadelphia’s leaf collection program this year.

Upcoming Events!

Sam Filippi, a local ironworker and member of a family with 75 years of expertise in the industry, will give a presentation on the Filippi Brothers’ works to restore the Conservancy’s Headquarters iron fence. Filippi will also provide information, tips, and tricks for homeowners on how to restore and maintain iron fences, railings, gateways, and other architectural components and decorations. This is a free event, but registration is requested.

A free program to the community, Ask the Experts addresses a featured topic by an expert on prevalent issues relating to historic home and landscape care, as well as free access to the Archives. Ask questions; get solutions!

Organized by the Chestnut Hill Conservancy and co-sponsored by the Chestnut Hill Community Association.

Stag and Doe night starts Nov 30th

Every Wednesday from Thanksgiving through Christmas.  Chestnut Hill’s beloved annual Stag & Doe Nights return, featuring extended store hours, holiday specials, and complimentary refreshments at many stores.  A brass quartet will roam every Stag & Doe Night from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  You may even catch a glimpse of Santa strutting down the Avenue and greeting families from 6:30-8:30pm.

Keep it green. Recycle your leaves.

There will be 13 bagged leaf drop-off collection areas throughout the City for weekly leaf drop-off on Saturdays November 9th, December 3rd, December 10th, and December 17th (from 9 AM to 3 PM) at the locations listed below. Residents can also drop bagged leaves off at the Sanitation Convenience Centers, Monday through Saturday from 8 AM – 6 PM. Mechanical leaf collection will be offered in areas with a heavy concentration of leaves.

COLLECTION GUIDELINES

Bagged leaf drop-off collection tips:

• Leaves must be placed in large brown biodegradable paper bags.
• Never mix trash or other recyclables with bagged leaves.

Mechanical collection area tips:

• Have leaves ready for collection by 7:00 AM Monday for each week of mechanical collection.
• If possible, move your vehicle to an off-street location on your scheduled collection day.

Help the City keep leaves out of the landfill. Collect, bag, and recycle your leaves.

Recycle more at our sanitation convenience centers! Residents can recycle the following at our six locations across the city. (We do not accept construction debris). View specific locations by clicking link in the bio.

➡️ Bulk items, large metal household items or appliances, or items containing refrigerants (limited to two a day)
➡️ Electronic waste, including computers, monitors, and televisions
➡️ Recyclable materials
➡️ Yard waste (must be free of contamination and contained in paper bags only)
➡️ Batteries to include lithium, rechargeable, and lead-acid batteries
