A family leather and suede repair business

Over the years, various members of the family worked in the shop in varying capacities, including Carman’s brother Lou. In 1974, Lou was killed in an automobile accident.  This tragedy had a big impact on Lou’s nephew, Carmen Jr, and was the influence for him to get into the trade. After his college graduation, Carmen Jr joined the family business full time.

In 1984, Carmen Jr. bought the business from his father and soon relocated the shop to 8111 Germantown Avenue, another family-operated building, the home of Carman’s Shoe Repair Shop to this day. Sadly, Carmen Sr. and his wife have since passed away, but Carmen carries on the family tradition of old world craftsmanship and shoe and leather repair.

In June of 2005, the shop was completely renovated to expand and modernize the space. It now offers several brands of quality leather shoes for sale, such as SAS and Alden shoes, and is a certified reconditioning shop for Birkenstock cork bed sandals.  Their leather and suede repair expertise is second to none in Philadelphia, and Carman’s has become the go to provider for the repair of all kinds of items from shoes and accessories to sports equipment, collectibles and family heirlooms.
