PHILADELPHIA – March 18, 2026 –Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) is now accepting applications for five Seasonal Field Crew members to assist with regular cleanups and general stewardship of Wissahickon Valley Park during its busiest season from May through August (with a potential to continue to the end of October).
Seasonal crew members are primarily responsible for keeping high-use areas clean by distributing trash bags and removing litter, graffiti, and trail debris. Often the first point of contact for park users, they will also represent FOW at some of the park’s most-visited locations, e.g. Valley Green Inn, Devil’s Pool, and Kitchen’s Lane, in educating and engaging visitors about park rules, Leave No Trace principles for responsible park use, and FOW’s mission and stewardship work.
Based primarily outdoors, this position requires applicants to be comfortable with spending long periods of time in all kinds of weather situations. They must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry that weight over long distances and possibly uneven terrain.
One crew member will be selected to assist FOW’s Programs Manager with the six-week high school summer internship program, which runs Tuesday through Thursday from early July to mid-August.
Ideal candidates will have some work and labor experience, be friendly and personable and able to clearly communicate with the public, be highly motivated, and work successfully as part of a team. Bilingual (English/Spanish) speakers preferred.
Applicants must be at least 18. The position is primarily a Thursday to Sunday schedule, with some holidays required. Pay rate is $18 per hour for 14 to 28 hours per week. The position begins with mandatory multi-day training over Memorial Day weekend (May 22-25).
