Friends of the Chestnut Hill Library: A 250 Sale, Museum Passes, and an Author Event

June 30 @ 10:00 am - July 5 @ 5:00 pm
The torrent of red, white, and blue has finally breached Hilltop’s doors. For us that means we’ve weeded, refreshed, and restocked our History sections. And, we’re marking down US History, Black Studies, and Native American Studies thru July 5th! The books aren’t subpar, but we wanted to offer you a treat.

Pick a book from one of these sections and they will be marked down an additional 15% above our usual discounts!

Partnership Annoucement: Museum of the American Revolution

This Summer the Chestnut Hill Library is partnering with the Museum of the American Revolution.

Anyone with a library card can borrow Guest Passes to the Museum of the American Revolution! Present your library card to the library staff and the museum pass is good for 2 adults and 4 youth. Children under 5 are always free. Your visit to the museum will be free! Borrowing restrictions apply and the passes cannot be reserved in advance. Call or stop into the Chestnut Hill branch to inquire about availability.

Museum staff will visit the Chestnut Hill Library for two programs:

Explore the Declaration of Independence
(Tuesday, July 7 at 5:30PM)
This program, appropriate for ages 6-12, will include curiousity-provoking object, document, and story-based activities that will bring the people and events of the American Revolution to life.

Spies of the Revolution
(Tuesday, Augus 4 at 5:30PM)
Also led by museum educators, participants of this program will learn about spies of the American Revolution. Who were they and how did they operate under cover? You’ll get to untwist some of these puzzles. This program is perfect for ages 7-12 and their grown-ups.

Join us as we celebrate the release of Dr. Meg Wahlberg’s Knitbone, a historical fiction novel about a woman serving as a bonesetter amidst the terror of the Albigensian Crusade. Bring your most obscure questions about medieval herbalism and military medicine. There will be a theatrical reading, a book signing, and a Q&A with the author.

We hosted Meg with her previous book, Chivalry in the Shadows. As a scholar of medieval literature she has a skill in creating an immersive, realistic setting. We can’t wait for you to join us for Knitbone‘s launch!

One final reminder – if you or someone you know is an enthusiastic performer who can bring a short scary story to life, we’d love to receive a short video audition from you. The first step is indicating your interest by June 30th.

Please be sure to read the full Job Description that provides more context for the event and what we’re looking for.

All are welcome to apply!
