The Blue Warbler Corner & GardenSomewhere There’s Music
Not gonna lie: we considered a good few Wissahickon birds when deciding what to call our all-day jawn in Chestnut Hill. And not just birds. There were many strong contenders among the local fauna and flora, and plenty of cool surnames with local historical and cultural associations.”It sounds like a jazz club,” one concerned friend said, when we proposed calling it The Blue Warbler. “Or maybe a blues club?”Hmmm, I thought. That’s not exactly us. But it’s not not us.
It always seemed like offering some live music would be fun. Warblers are songbirds, after all, and the migratory black-throated blue warbler (Setophaga caerulescens) comes from Central and Latin America — a place where great food, great coffee and great music abound.
Next week, on November 10, it will be the first time we’ve served dinner on a Tuesday — and it will also be the first time live music will grace our space.
We’ll be featuring Jon Dichter, a virtuoso multi-genre guitarist from Mt. Airy. His watchword, like ours, is eclectic. Expect to hear shades of Django Reinhardt, Les Paul, Paul Simon and Nina Simone while you eat and drink. Maybe some flamenco- or delta blues-inflected improvisations, too. Whether you want to pay close attention to the music or just have Jon’s chords season your chitchat, we’re confident you’ll enjoy the warbling Warbler experience. And if that’s not enough enticement, those who come out Tuesday will not only hear live music’s debut at 8001 Germantown Ave — they’ll be the first to try several new autumn-winter dishes. We’ve already been ladling out matzo ball soup left and right, and we can’t wait for you to see what we do with delicata squash, red snapper, coconut-braised cabbage — and an impressive new array of wines, beers, cocktails and mocktails to wash it all down.
