| We had a great time celebrating with the Philadelphia Chapter of the Interior Design Society last week as we hosted their monthly gathering. IDS represents forward-looking designers, tradespeople, and others in the design community looking to build relationships, develop skills, and have a little fun while doing it. A few of our compatriots from the Chestnut Hill Design Destination joined us as well, some of whom are IDS members. We love this partnership and look forward to continuing to connect artists with designers looking to provide unique options for their clients. |

| It is impossible to adequately pen, and do justly praise, in a single paragraph, my thirty plus year professional relationship & personal friendship with textile artist, Barbara Lee Smith. I was introduced to Barbara by the late Cynthia Boyer, who was a textile artist, craft collector, great supporter of the Textile Museum and longtime member of the James Renwick Alliance. Cynthia knew Barbara’s work would resonate with me and it certainly did. The bonus came in the form of a longtime friend. Barbara’s Dorothy Parker-like wit has always kept me on my toes. For five decades she has been a practicing studio textile artist, having traveled internationally often teaching and exhibiting her work. She is passionate for all the arts, driving her creativity. Barbara’s material of choice is a commercial grade synthetic interfacing on which she paints, collages and fuses layers of the interfacing and when she feels a piece is complete, she turns turns the piece over and with variegated threads, stitches topographical patterns with an industrial swing-arm sewing machine. The heavily stitched surfaces, with her expressive painting and use of color, and unique collaging techniques set her work apart from most fiber and textile artists working today. I am very proud to call her my friend, and grateful for the many years of collaboration, working with clients, museums, galleries, fellow artists and placing work in wonderful homes, many public, corporate and private residences and collections. Gravers Lane Gallery has proudly represented Barbara Lee Smith’s work since 2013.
