Moonlight & Roses

Friday, June 2  5:30  – 10:30 pm

In addition to paying homage to our 2023 honorees, this year’s fundraising gala also celebrates the Morris’s 90th anniversary as a public garden. Proceeds directly support the Morris’s work as a renowned public botanic garden and as a center for plant-science research and educational programming for all ages. Rose Garden

Take in the spectacular sights and scents of the historic Rose Garden in its full summer glory, now with more accessibility! New bluestone walkways make it easier for visitors of all ages and abilities to experience the flowers. Created in 1888 at Compton, the summer home of John and Lydia Morris, the Rose Garden is home to more than 700 individual rose plants of 175 different varieties.

 

Simply Roses

Upper Gallery, Widener Welcome Center

Do you love roses, but are reluctant to grow them because you think that they are too difficult or fussy? Learn how to select, plant, and care for roses through a practical month-to month plan. Afterward, we will stroll through the Philadelphia Rose Society’s Annual Rose Display/Exhibition at the Morris. Each class participant will receive a bouquet of beautiful roses as PRS members take down their displays! Presented by Mary McKnight-Seltzer, master gardener and president of the Philadelphia Rose Society.

Yoga in the Garden (2 sessions)

Wednesdays: June 7, 14, 21, 28  5 – 6 pm

Wednesdays: July 5, 12, 19, 26  5 – 6 pm

Meet at Widener Welcome Center

Study inspirational Vinyasa yoga, led by Jennifer Schelter. Learn the basics of yoga and deep relaxation while surrounded by the Morris’s peaceful ambience. All are welcome, including beginners. Bring a yoga mat, a towel to place under your mat, and wear comfortable clothes. In inclement weather, the class will meet indoors. Exuberant Blooms: A Pop-Up Garden

Step into an explosion of color this summer, when Exuberant Blooms: A Pop-Up Garden blossoms at Morris Arboretum & Gardens! Exuberant Blooms is a vibrant and immersive floral display that pays homage to the grandeur of the Victorian floral carpet while infusing it with a modern, informal design. Showcasing more than 12,000 plants of varying color, form, height, and shape, each bed contains a wide variety of annual and tropical plants known for their bold, saturated colors and their appeal to butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators.

Join knowledgeable guides for a walking tour highlighting garden features not often discovered on an average visit, such as structures, sculptures, spaces, trees, and vistas. Go off the beaten path to places you haven’t been before and see garden gems you haven’t seen before.

Historic Springfield Mills Days

Morris Arboretum’s oldest architectural feature is the historic grist mill, dating back to 1761 and situated along the picturesque Wissahickon Creek. On a guided interactive tour, watch one-ton millstones grind corn kernels, observe 160-year-old machinery transport and sift ground corn to produce meal, and even grind your own flour on a pedal-powered mill.

Morris Motor Show

See a selection of cars through the decades in celebration of the Morris Arboretum & Gardens’ 90 years as a public garden. The show is a nod to founder Lydia Morris, who enjoyed being driven through her estate by her head gardener.

Garden Railway: Public Gardens

Our beloved Garden Railway is marking 25 years with 300 feet of additional track, making it one of the largest outdoor model train displays in the country at one-third of a mile! This year, we’re celebrating the joy and importance of public gardens with miniature replicas of iconic structures at some of America’s most famous public gardens, including the Climatron at Missouri Botanical Garden, Torii Gate and Pavilion at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and flamingo topiaries from the Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens.

Bloomin’ Bubbles

Tuesdays through August 29, 2023  11 am

Join us every Tuesday as we transform the Azalea Meadow into a magical bubble party for kids. The second Tuesday of each month will be Bubbles & Dance, where music is added into the mix for animal dancing, slo-mo dance, freeze dance, and more! The fourth Tuesday of the month is Bubbles Surprise, with unique bubble-based activities.

Garden Highlights Tour

Our knowledgeable guides will design a tour around the interests of the attendees. Every tour is different, so come back as many times as you’d like.
