Get ready for a wild and wonderful journey through the animal kingdom. Young artists will explore Woodmere in search of animal inspiration. Their favorite animals will come to life through imaginative, hands-on projects, painting bold, expressive animal portraits, crafting dazzling sculptures adorned with sparkles and flair, building colorful collages, and molding clay creatures full of personality. Budding young artists will dive into a dynamic world of painting techniques—splattering, swirling, and layering with acrylics, watercolors, tempera cakes, oil pastels, and resist methods. Through joyful, hands-on experimentation, they’ll design their own stunning collage papers by scraping, smudging, and blending a kaleidoscope of colors, then combine them with tissue, patterned, and other delightfully unexpected materials to build layered, one-of-a-kind masterpieces. This immersive, hands-on class perfectly balances structured instruction and personalized mentorship, guiding young artists as they shape and sharpen their individual styles. Students will deepen their command of color, drawing, and composition while diving into an exciting mix of materials—from bold acrylics and rich oil pastels to expressive charcoal, ink, and watercolor.
Inspiring experiences await, from sketching still lifes in detail with charcoal and pencil to plein air painting amid the lush beauty of Woodmere’s gardens. | The Poetic Language of Painting

Explore painting as a poetic and expressive language. Investigate how color, light, texture, and patterns create atmosphere, mood, and spatial movement, whether you are working representationally or abstractly. Learn how artists such as Henri Matisse, Willem De Kooning, Cy Twombly and others modify and improvise their compositions in order to create harmony.
