LEARN & CREATE
Wild Creations: Animals and Art

TUESDAY – FRIDAY, July 22-25 (Meets 4 times)

Get ready for a wild and wonderful journey through the animal kingdom. Young artists will explore Woodmere in search of animal inspiration. Their favorite animals will come to life through imaginative, hands-on projects, painting bold, expressive animal portraits, crafting dazzling sculptures adorned with sparkles and flair, building colorful collages, and molding clay creatures full of personality. Painting and Collage

Get ready for a vibrant, art-filled adventure! Budding young artists will dive into a dynamic world of painting techniques—splattering, swirling, and layering with acrylics, watercolors, tempera cakes, oil pastels, and resist methods. Through joyful, hands-on experimentation, they’ll design their own stunning collage papers by scraping, smudging, and blending a kaleidoscope of colors, then combine them with tissue, patterned, and other delightfully unexpected materials to build layered, one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Sculpture Fun

Step into a world where imagination takes shape! Young artists will draw inspiration from the captivating outdoor sculptures on Woodmere’s scenic grounds as they explore the limitless possibilities of 3-D art. Through hands-on discovery, they’ll sculpt whimsical clay creatures, engineer cardboard constructions, layer intricate paper assemblages, and craft bold, painted papier-mâché masterpieces. Along the way, they’ll unlock the secrets of form, balance, structure, and storytelling. Register here.

Teen Painting and Drawing

Teens, get ready to level up your art game! This immersive, hands-on class perfectly balances structured instruction and personalized mentorship, guiding young artists as they shape and sharpen their individual styles. Students will deepen their command of color, drawing, and composition while diving into an exciting mix of materials—from bold acrylics and rich oil pastels to expressive charcoal, ink, and watercolor.

Inspiring experiences await, from sketching still lifes in detail with charcoal and pencil to plein air painting amid the lush beauty of Woodmere’s gardens. Daily practice in sketchbook studies, color theory, and visual storytelling will form a solid artistic foundation. The Poetic Language of Painting

SATURDAYS, July 19 & 26

1 PM – 4 PM

$120 ($90 Members)

Explore painting as a poetic and expressive language. Investigate how color, light, texture, and patterns create atmosphere, mood, and spatial movement, whether you are working representationally or abstractly. Learn how artists such as Henri Matisse, Willem De Kooning, Cy Twombly and others modify and improvise their compositions in order to create harmony. Emphasis will be on developing your distinct visual voice, exploring metaphors, and evoking emotional content in your work. Register here.

ARTZ Notes

Saturday, July 12

11 AM – 12 PM

ARTZ Notes invites you to come together with other participants to listen to music, make your own, and engage with each other and the performers. Join ARTZ Notes curator and lead facilitator Keisha Hutchins Hirlinger and Philadelphia-based multidisciplinary artist and musician MB Singley (an ARTZ Notes favorite!) for this very special in-person program at Woodmere.
