“Clean Slate” – 2021
Oil on panel
8″ x 24″
Robin Tedesco is an artist and educator, living and working in Philadelphia. Her degrees in Fine Arts are from Moore College of Art (BFA), Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and University of Delaware (MFA). Her abstract oil paintings utilizing multiple layers of rich textures and colors on wood panels, reflect her experiences living in Italy, New York, and Philadelphia.
Tedesco describes herself as being both an archeologist and a detective. She loves to dig, uncover, restore and look for what the light and dark reveals and transforms. The wood panels serve as etching plates that color is pushed over and printed onto. A combination of printmaking, drawing, and painting interlace to form a cohesive image, revealing the interior light and structure present in the multiple layers of pigment and texture. Tedesco is committed to conveying the richness and depth of her experiences and observations in this work.
Her work has been exhibited internationally and is in public and private collections.
Fall 2021
ROBIN TEDESCO / “Passaggio”
8/13 – 9/19/2021
“When painting, I work like an archeologist – excavating, scratching, uncovering, and restoring. Forms and figuration appear and disappear as layers reveal and transform the hidden light.” -Robin Tedesco-
Bruce Metcalf / “Conditions of Ornament”
10/15 – 11/21/2021
“This series, ‘Conditions of Ornament,’ is brand new. My intention is to revivify these antique decorative motifs by making them contemporary. I started Xeroxing, tracing and cutting out some of the most dramatic designs I could find, with the purpose of somehow combining them. It was soon clear that layering was the most effective strategy. I could make a new mash up of unrelated patterns, and force comparisons that were never part of the original usages. It is the collision of very different contexts that make this work interesting.” -Bruce Metcalf-
Karin Birch
10/15 – 11/21/2021
Karin Birch has been using hand embroidery and hand stitched beadwork combined with acrylic paint as a medium for art making for more than twenty years. The act of hand stitching thread and beads is a slow and repetitive process that affords a space for uninterrupted thought. The act of painting is spontaneous, in the moment, physical movement. Combining these two opposite states gives form to endless exploration in to the mystery of being. “I work intuitively, mining personal experiences, energy, movement, nature and the occasional external interruptions of politics. I use this medium of minutiae as a practice for connecting with the vastness.”
