Friends of the Wissahickon Closes Lincoln Drive for Big Spring Cleanup
PHILADELPHIA – March 15, 2022- Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) and partners at Philadelphia Parks & Recreation will close Lincoln Drive from Wissahickon Ave. to Ridge Ave. for a large-scale litter cleanup on Saturday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to Noon.
More than 100 volunteers have registered to help clear the extensive trash that collects along this heavily traveled roadway, which runs adjacent to the Wissahickon Creek.
The event is FOW’s rescheduled MLK Day of Service event which was postponed due to weather. As Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?” This day of service is a great opportunity for individuals and groups to join together to give back to the park, the plants and animals that rely on it to live, and the more than 2 million visitors who love to recreate there.
Volunteers will start from one of two meeting locations located at either end of the cleanup area — Historic Rittenhouse Town and the Philadelphia Canoe Club — and work toward each other on Lincoln Drive. Gloves, trash bags, trash grabbers, and instruction will be provided. Volunteers must pre-register and sign a volunteer agreement here.
FOW is partnering with the Philadelphia Canoe Club, Historic Rittenhouse Town, and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation for this spring day of service event. The Rounds, a local delivery and refill service for everyday essentials, is presenting sponsor.
