Music Celebrating Christmas from Times Past

Renaissance Noël performed by Vox Renaissance Consort

Take a beautiful and joyous musical journey back in time as Valentin Radu, artistic director and conductor of VoxAmaDeus, leads his Vox Renaissance Consort in two performances of beloved music for the Christmas season —melodies that were popular during the European High Renaissance and Early Baroque periods (about 1550 to 1675).

Renaissance Noël is a magical mixture of centuries-old folk songs, carols, motets and madrigals. In fact, several selections on the Vox Renaissance Consort program are still sung and revered today. The entire family will delight in hauntingly beautiful classics like “Greensleeves,” the ancient chant “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” lively Christmas bells and the gentle “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming.”

Renaissance Noël is a feast for the ears and the eyes—and easy on the family pocketbook! The professional singers of Vox Renaissance Consort are attired in lush High Renaissance dress and accompanied by minstrels playing period appropriate instruments. The program is conducted by the dynamic Maestro Valentin Radu. Performance dates, times and locations are:

  • Friday, December 9 at 8:00 p.m. in Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church at 22 East Chestnut Hill Avenue near the intersection of Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, PA 19118.

Tickets for these Renaissance Noël concerts, bought in advance online at www.VoxAmaDeus.org or by phone at 6106882800, are moderately priced at $25 for general admission, $20 for seniors (65+), and $10 for students and children, plus modest box office fees. Tickets purchased at the door 45 minutes prior to concert time are priced slightly higher at $30 for General Admission, $25 for Senior Citizens but still $10 for children and students.

Come and be enthralled!
