Join us at Woodmere on Tuesday evening, February 25
for a special screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s silent thriller
The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog
with live accompaniment by Not So Silent Cinema
Hitchcock’s first thriller (and only his third film), The Lodger (1927) features atmospheric visuals and psychological tension, marking the inception of the signature techniques – including Hitchcock’s first on-screen cameo – that would become the auteur’s hallmarks.
Heightening the experience will be a live performance of an original score created for this film by Philadelphia composer, Brendan Cooney, founder of Not So Silent Cinema. Cooney’s score for The Lodger draws on the styles of his previous scores for German Expressionist films like Nosferatu and alludes to the sonic palette given to later Hitchcock films, such as Psycho and Vertigo, by Bernard Herrmann.
Driven by their belief in the power of music to tell stories, inspire audiences, and breathe new life into classic film, Not So Silent Cinema has been composing and performing new scores to classic silent films since 2010. Not So Silent Cinema Performers for The Lodger
