Mt. Airy Learning Tree’s 2019 Hidden Gardens Tour unlocks the gates to a diverse group of our Garden Hosts’ private domains. Whether you are inspired by native plantings, botanical exotica, ponds, garden ornaments, or sublime outdoor rooms, this self-guided tour of area gardens will be sure to satisfy your urge to “stop and smell the roses.”
This year’s tour will be held on June 8th, from 10am – 3pm, and features a wide variety of backyard landscapes eight gardens located throughout Germantown, Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill. Our garden hosts range from the award-winning landscape professional to the quirky green-thumbed hobbyist, with much diversity in between. One property on the tour was awarded the distinction of “important American residential garden” by the Smithsonian Institute, and features bluestone terraces, and a lap pool that play against a naturalistic planting style which settles gracefully into the Wissahickon hillside landscape. In another featured garden, playfulness prevails: Why hunt for classic cast stone garden pedestals and sculptures
when you can have so much more fun re-purposing porcelain bathroom fixtures and filling them with billowing botanicals and sea shells?
Registrants can pick up coffee and pastries courtesy of High Point Cafe, along with their Tour map & brochure at the MALT office, 6601 Greene St, Philadelphia, PA 19119 from 10 am to 12:00 noon. Gardens will remain open until 3 pm.
