Morris Arboretum’s Annual Gala, Moonlight & Roses Presented by The Haverford Trust Company

– A Lovely Evening Under the Stars
Morris Arboretum’s annual fundraising gala, Moonlight & Roses presented by The Haverford Trust Company will be held on Friday, June 3.  The evening’s festivities begin at 6pm with cocktails in the Rose Garden, followed by dinner and dancing under a clear-top tent. Funds raised through this year’s event will help to sustain the mission of Morris Arboretum, from ongoing efforts to restore and maintain the beloved horticultural and architectural features, to growing a diverse array of educational and outreach programs.

The 2016 gala will honor Edith Robb Dixon, former owner of Erdenheim Farm, current resident at The Hill at Whitemarsh, and treasured friend of the Arboretum.  An active member of the Arboretum community, Mrs. Dixon joined the Director’s Guild in 2008 and later the Advisory Board of Managers.  She has played a central role in transforming the institution through her thoughtful counsel and remarkable philanthropic support.

Elizabeth M. Salata and Joann M. Lytle are the 2016 co-chairs of the Moonlight & Roses gala.  Both Elizabeth, who joined the board in 2015, and Joann, who has been an active member of the Moonlight & Roses planning committee for three years, are leading efforts to ensure a spectacular celebration.

This year marks nearly two decades of partnership with The Haverford Trust Company, the event’s title sponsor.  Founded on Rittenhouse Square more than three decades ago, The Haverford Trust Company is an independent, privately-owned wealth management firm that serves a wide range of individuals and institutional investors.  Haverford Trust offers investment management, nonprofit solutions, personal trust and estate services, and retirement planning.

“We circle the Moonlight & Roses gala on our calendar every year because it combines two of Haverford’s strongest values: philanthropy and community,” Haverford founder and director–– and emeritus Arboretum Advisory Board member––George W. Connell said.  “Morris Arboretum is such a treasure for the Philadelphia community and we’re proud to be a longtime supporter.  We look forward to a special evening in this remarkable setting.”

The Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania is located at 100 East Northwestern Avenue in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia.  The 92-acre horticulture display garden features a spectacular collection of mature trees in a beautiful and colorful landscape. The Arboretum includes numerous picturesque spots such as a formal rose garden, historic water features, a swan pond, and the only remaining freestanding fernery in North America. The arboretum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is also the official arboretum of Pennsylvania. A permanent nationally award winning exhibit, Out on a Limb – a Tree Adventure adds to Morris Arboretum’s allure by transporting visitors 50 feet up into the treetops on a canopy walk that requires no climbing.  Open weekdays 10am-4pm and weekends 10am-5pm (Apr-Oct).  Open late on Wednesdays in June, July, and August until 8pm.  For more information, visit www.morrisarboretum.org.
