Close Observation: Winter Buds to Springtime Blooms

Woody plants closely guard their buds throughout the winter, full of precious pre-formed leaves and flower petals. These buds are awaiting the perfect springtime moment to bloom while avoiding risk of frost. Different species bloom and “leaf out” at different times of spring, and this timing is shifting with climate change. In preparation for your upcoming springtime walks, join arborist & PHS Trees Specialist Jehane Samaha in a discussion of the science of springtime phenology (or the timing of natural events), and learn to keep an observation notebook from year to year.
