Join Friends of the Wissahickon and SCH for a Group Planting in the Park
Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH) are partnering for a group planting in Wissahickon Valley Park on Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to Noon. Join them to help close an eroding trail section with native trees and shrubs.
More than a place to recreate, the Wissahickon is also home to hundreds of species of wildlife and provides a green buffer between impervious surfaces and the Wissahickon Creek, which is an important source of drinking water for residents in Northwest Philadelphia.
Volunteer service days are excellent, easy ways to help FOW take care of the park. No experience is needed. FOW provides gloves, tools and instruction. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants and bring a water bottle.
Register here. Meet at the Hartwell Lane Trailhead (along the curve where Cherokee Street turns into West Hartwell Lane). More details will be emailed the day before the event. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.
