Friends of the Wissahickon Presents Valley Talk on Wissahickon Valley Park’s

Historic WPA Structures – May 15

PHILADELPHIA – April 30, 2024– Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) announces its second spring Valley Talk in the special 100th Anniversary series celebrating FOW’s 100th years of stewardship and the Wissahickon Valley Park’s past, present, and future.

Have you ever wondered about those stone and log buildings located throughout the park? On Wednesday, May 15, join architect Kate Cowing for “Discovering the Wissahickon’s WPA Structures” to learn the history of the Wissahickon structures built through the Works Progress Administration (WPA) employment program, created in 1935, the controversy leading up to their construction, and their current status. Register here.

Valley Talks are hosted in-person at the Valley Green Inn and virtually on Zoom from

6-7:30 p.m. (Online registrants will receive a Zoom link before the presentation.)

Can’t make it? The Zoom recording will be posted to FOW’s YouTube following the event. Find some of our past talks, including Climate Change in our Watershed, Lenape, A Living Language, and Maps of the Wissahickon, on FOW’s channel here.
