*A suggested $5.00 donation per copy will help support The Stained Glass Project: Windows That Open Doors, an afterschool stained glass program. (SGP) is a volunteer-run after-school arts program that introduces under-served Philadelphia public high school students to the technically demanding artistic discipline of making stained glass. Each year students come every week and create magnificent stained glass windows for worthy institutions. After working so hard on them, they then donate their windows to deserving students all over the world. They receive social service credits from their schools for attending this program.
Sammie Gualtieri and Kate Crankshaw have recently stepped into the roles as co-directors. They are raising money to establish a scholarship fund which will allow students to continue their glass education at craft schools nationwide.

Fuller Craft Museum Acquisition
Cynthia D. Friedman’s “Moroccan Blue Men”
Gifted from the collection of Marcia Docter
in loving memory of Cynthia Friedman

Cynthia Friedman, Moroccan Blue Men, 2016-2017, Quilt, silk and silk organza, fused applique with cotton batting and backing 2024.7, 39″ x 51” |
In September of 2023 Gravers Lane Gallery lost a great friend, artist and humanitarian, Cynthia Friedman. We were privileged to have hosted a solo exhibition of Cindy’s work in 2017. The exhibit showcased the most outstanding works, among them, Moroccan Blue Men, a complex study of shapes and shadows composed of luminous fabrics masterfully pieced, appliquéd and stitched. The piece was instantly acquired by an admired artist, art patron & humanitarian, Marcia Docter. After receiving the sad news of Cindys’ passing, Mrs. Docter contacted Gravers Lane Gallery with a request to place the quilt into a museum’s permanent collection ensuring that Moroccan Blue Men is enjoyed by many. This past June we received word from Beth McLaughlin, Chief Curator at The Fuller Craft Museum, that the acquisitions committee had approved the generous gift from Marcia Docter in loving memory of Cynthia Friedman. Knowing Cindy, as Bruce Hoffman did, she would be grateful, humbled and proud to be in the permanent collection of this jewel of a museum.
The Fuller Craft Museum is in Brockton Massachusetts https://fullercraft.org/

A tree will tell you a story about life, growth and death…
Essential to the air we breath, magnificent, strong, patient, almost invisible to us, trees are silent witnesses to our life’s events. To turn a tree on a lathe is to reveal a story about growth, reproduction and death. I forage local trees after they have been taken down by arborists and storms. Each piece I make has the recorded coordinates of that tree’s geographical location.
I was born in Oviedo Spain and call Philadelphia home since the late eighties. I am a trained goldsmith and |

diamond setter with a BFA from Tyler School of Art and completed my studies in traditional stone setting techniques at Universidad de Minas, Oviedo, Spain. In 2019 I started collecting fallen logs during my nature expeditions around the city and teaching myself how to turn on a lathe. All my work is made with species that are native to Philadelphia’s rich and diverse urban canopy which is mostly comprised of cemeteries, parks, empty lots, and tree lined streets.
