Closing Reception

At Gravers Lane Gallery, we are honored to feature the timeless beauty of Mary A. Jackson’s sweetgrass baskets. These stunning creations are deeply rooted in the Gullah-Geechee culture of the Lowcountry of South Carolina, reflecting a rich heritage that has been passed down through generations. Crafted with native sweetgrass, bulrush, pine needles, and palmetto, each basket is a testament to the skill, patience, and artistry of its maker.
Sweetgrass basket weaving dates back centuries, blending African traditions with local materials to create pieces that are both functional and decorative. Beyond their intricate designs, these baskets carry stories of resilience and connection to the land. They serve as a bridge between the past and present, honoring the artistry of the Gullah-Geechee community while continuing to inspire new generations. |
