HOLIDAYS AT GLG

Designed to Dwell

Fine Art & Design: At Home with GLG

Nov 28th 2025 – Jan 11th, 2026

First Fridays Dec 5th 2025 and Jan 2nd 2026

Stag and Doe Events Dec 3rd, 10th, 17th | 5-9pm

This winter, Gravers Lane Gallery debuts Designed to Dwell, an invitational group exhibition bringing together leading craft artists and newly invited makers of space for an exploration of form, light, and aesthetics for the home. Opening December 5, 2025 (5–8pm) with a second reception on January 2, 2026 (5–8pm), the exhibition invites collectors, designers, and homeowners to discover design objects within the world of Contemporary Craft.

Designed to Dwell is the gallery’s first exhibition primarily devoted to furniture and lighting, exploring the design world through makers of Contemporary Craft. The artists at the heart of this exhibition conceive, design, and meticulously hand-make every piece themselves. As studio practitioners who are also designers, their work reflects technical mastery, deep material knowledge, and a unique perspective on how objects shape space and perform function. Drawing on craft traditions and design history, their work balances function and artistry, celebrating both beauty and purpose.

Shaping Space for Designers & Homeowners: With its mix of collectible fine art and bespoke design, Designed to Dwell offers objects that are both functional and sculptural, practical and poetic. The works embody handmade expertise, meticulous craftsmanship, and the ethos of slow design. The exhibition presents works that literally and figuratively shape the way a home is experienced, inviting designers and homeowners to create spaces that are truly unique and disregard trends. GLG invites viewers to consider thoughtful, creative, and purposeful design for their spaces—honoring the spirit of Contemporary Craft.

Special Offerings: In addition to the works on view, curated catalogues of other available works will be accessible for the duration of the exhibition. These works will be available for purchase and custom orders from exhibiting artists, reflecting the exhibition’s character of unique, personalised design.

THANK YOU TO RUE PIGALLE FOR THE LOVELY VISIT

Toronto-based tour group visited the gallery on their latest tour

Last week we welcomed a group of Canadian collectors who travelled to Philadelphia to discover the city through its crafts. Barbara Lee Smith was able to join us and share her process and inspiration with the guests, creating a wonderful opportunity for cross cultural exchange.

When Isabelle Fish, founder of Toronto-based Rue Pigalle, contacted us to organise the visit we were intrigued and delighted. Discovering a place through its crafts is such a unique way to travel – after all, craft practices evolved based on the local materials available, the topography and history of a place.

Interested in joining an upcoming tour?

Isabelle organises women-only trips to various places and her next trip is to London, UK – the focus of the itinerary is paper, a medium that has truly shaped the city. The details of the trip (and many others) can be discovered on Rue Pigalle’s website.

JOIN US IN SUPPORTING THE STAINED GLASS PROJECT

A historic new home dedicated to serving more of Philadelphia’s youth

This Giving Tuesday, Gravers Lane Gallery is proud to highlight The Stained Glass Project: Windows That Open Doors, a free after-school program now run by our very own Kate Crankshaw. This long-standing initiative founded by Paula Mandel and Joan Myerson Shrager gives Philadelphia students a safe, creative space to learn stained glass while creating windows that are donated to nonprofits across the country.

We’re thrilled to share that the program has moved into a new home, the historic University of the Arts Glass Studio, becoming the very first tenant in Scout’s Village of Industry & Art. With this move, they’re expanding access, strengthening community partnerships, and preserving a crucial piece of Philly’s creative legacy. They will also continue to operate the program at Woodmere Art Museum, giving them the opportunity to serve students across the city.

As the program grows, they rely on community support. Your donations help keep the program free, supply students with materials, and ensure young people have a place to explore their creativity. Your support is much appreciated!
