Cozy up while strolling the Avenue on Friday, January 27, and Saturday, January 28. 

Winter outdoor spaces are our favorite in Chestnut Hill’s charming historic urban enclave. While strolling the Avenue to check out ice sculptures, slipping into shops for winter sales and shop specials, or grabbing a bowl of scratch-made chilis, check out our list below for events, including new this year, street curling plus a few locations to stay comfortable and cozy during Chestnut Hill on Ice.

Friday, January 27

Events, Pop-Ups, and Demonstrations

Char and Stave 8441 Germantown Avenue (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM) Join Char and Stave at their Chestnut Hill preview at Chestnut Hill on Ice. Stop by for a hot coffee, buy their coffee beans by the bag, and enjoy spirits from Bluebird Distilleries by the bottle and in cocktails.

Chestnut Hill Brewing Company at Market at the Fareway 8221 Germantown Avenue (5:00 PM – 9:00 PM) a live ice carving demonstration as Peter Slavin creates an Ice Bar for them starting at 5:00 PM. After the Ice Bar is complete, please stick around and warm up with heaters, abundant outdoor seating, and an inviting fire pit, as they stay open until 9:00 PM serving drinks.

Ice Carving Demonstration 8125 Germantown Avenue (6:30 PM – 7:30 PM) Live ice carving shows by Peter Slavin and his talented team at Ice Sculpture Philly. Ice Sculpture Philly is the world’s first performance ice sculpting company, combining action, adventure, humor, drama, and audience participation to create an unforgettable experience.

Isabella Sparrow 8433 Germantown Avenue Stay cozy in the courtyard garden all night and watch a live blacksmith demonstration with Wissahickon Forge from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Mom-Mom’s Kitchen 8125 Germantown Avenue (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM) Warm up with scratch-made Polish fare that is made by hand and with heart.

Moondance Farm Studios8236 Germantown Avenue (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM) Enjoy a spiced wine while checking out how the neon art and dried gourd lamps glow at night. 

Mural City Cellars 8125 Germantown Avenue (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM) Cozy up at Mural City Cellars’s mobile bar with a Mulled Wine (or two), and buy a bottle to go!

NoName Gallery – 8127 Germantown Avenue Stop in for a Mini-Exhibition (ending Sunday, January 29).

Snowflake Ice Sculpture8125 Germantown Avenue (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM) Strike a pose with a giant ice sculpture in the shape of a snowflake.

Stateside Vodka 8125 Germantown Avenue (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM) Sample from Stateside Vodka’s mobile, warm up with a cocktail (or two), and buy a bottle to go!

Chestnut Hill Brewing Company at Market at the Fareway 8221 Germantown Avenue (11:30 AM – 9:00 PM) The Ice Bar will be open starting at 11:30 AM, with live music beginning at 6:00 PM. Cozy up with chili and drink specials while you warm up with heaters, abundant outdoor seating, and an inviting fire pit

Compass 8204 Germantown Avenue (12:00 PM – 3:00 PM) – It will be hard to miss Compass’ tailgate trailer with a television to warm up and play some cornhole and Connect 4. Then warm up and stop in their office for a complimentary hot chocolate.

El Poquito – 8201 Germantown Avenue Multiple heated igloos and food and drink specials.

Evergreen Cheese – 184 East Evergreen Avenue (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM) While in the Winter Activities at the Blue Lot, join Evergreen Cheese at their solo stove to warm up.

Ice Sculpture Garden at Laurel Hill8125 Germantown Avenue (12:00 PM – 5:00 PM) Multiple firepits and vendors with refreshments will be at Laurel Hill Gardens.

Winter Activities at the Blue Lot

Kid-friendly Axe Throwing – (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM) $5 for 15 minutes of play. 

Caricatures(11:00 AM – 3:00 PM) $15 – $20 per face. 

Chestnut Hill College and Big Griff(12:00 PM – 3:00 PM) Stop by their table and meet and greet college mascot Big Griff, who will be happy to pose for photos! Big Griff will also stroll around the Avenue to the Ice Sculpture Garden at Laurel Hill.

Hilltop Books: A Project of Friends of the Chestnut Hill Library – (12:00 PM – 5:30 PM) Visit Hilltop Books at their table to learn about the Free Library of Chestnut Hill, learn about their repairs while the library is closed, February programs, buy a bookmark, and stock up on some Girl Scout Cookies to nosh on for the Ice Bonfire beginning at 5:30 PM. 

Evergreen Cheese – (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM) Evergreen Cheese will have a warming station and will open for food sales. 

Ice Bonfire – (5:30 PM) Stay warm as Chestnut Hill on Ice concludes with an impressive eight-foot bonfire encased in a pillar of ice.

Mimi’s Market and Cafe – (11:00 AM – 7:00 PM) Stop by Mimi’s for their food and drink specials. Click here to learn more about their offerings.

Street Curling – (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM) New this year to Chestnut Hill on Ice is Street Curling! Street Curling will be available at the Winter Activities at the Blue Lot from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 28. Tickets can be purchased in advance. The ticket sales are per timeslot. To participate, please sign up as a group. Groups should have a minimum of four, with a maximum of eight, and will have 30 minutes of play per slot. Purchase your tickets HERE for timeslots between 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM. The final two slots of the day (3:00 PM – 3:30 PM and 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM) are reserved for in-person sales on Saturday, January 28. All sales are first come, first served.

Tooth Bud Pediatric Dentistry – (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM) Visit Tooth Bud’s table for games, toothbrush bags, and warm up with their complementary hot chocolate bar!

Villavillekula with Windfall Gallery 8419 Germantown Avenue (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM) Meet and greet an Ice Princess and her snowy bestie from the North Mountain out front of Villavillekula (weather permitting) or inside if they need to warm up a little – but not too much! While snapping selfies, stop inside Villavillekula and enjoy their winter sale.
