To create her “Spirits,” stained glass artist, Patti Stem, uses art glass with a live edge to capture light deep into the glass so it glows and changes colors as the light changes throughout the day. Crystals and dichroic glass create rainbow effects in the piece and on nearby surfaces.
Patti says the “Spirits” come to her and guide her process, each having a unique personality that is reflected in its colors and shapes.
“Spirits, like humans, are not perfect. They represent love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. I don’t name the Spirits so that when they arrive at their forever home, their new family can determine what the Spirit symbolizes to them.”
Patti is a retired Architecture, Interiors & Lighting Designer who went to Moore College of Art and was trained in Color Theory by the renowned instructor, Louise Stahl.
“My love of color and light has come full circle in the use of glass and metal.”Lori Lorraine is new to the medium of alcohol inks, but once she found them, she dove in fully, experimenting with them on a variety of smooth surfaces to create her signature “happy, bright & joyful works.” Many of pieces are florals, along with some landscapes and abstracts, and all have an ethereal quality that is similar to stained glass, with color and light playing off of each other with harmony and a bit of magic.
A long-time social worker and mom of two teens, Lori is a self-taught artist who has always indulged her love of creating. She is gearing up for her second act as a professional artist.
“After over 40 years of being an employee, I plan to embrace this next phase of my life making & selling art, leading alcohol ink classes & workshops, and getting involved in community art initiatives. I love finally being my own boss!”
Meet Lori & Patti this Friday and see their colorful, light-filled creations in person.
