Leah Whitaker is an abstract artist living in Mt. Airy who incorporates, “everyday materials – leaves, foil, foil tape, papers, and even random finds at Home Depot,” into her mixed media pieces, along with painting and ink drawing. She sometimes cuts up her paintings and reassembles them into new designs.
“Looking for design and texture in every aspect of my life is the inspiration for my art. I love textures. My other passion is looking at different types of architecture and houses. When I’m not creating, I’m either walking, chilling with a friend, or listening to some good jazz music – another stimulant to my creativity.”
Leah has been in group exhibitions in University City and is a member of the Cheltenham Center for the Arts where she has been in several shows.
She graduated from Moore College of Art & Design in 1977 with a B.F.A. in Advertising Design and says she inherited her creativity from her late mother, a talented portrait artist.
[I call Leah “the artists’ artist” because many other Moondance artists are particularly drawn to Leah’s work.] |
