October 9 – A Soup to Nuts History of the Wissahickon Valley
with Alex Bartlett, curator and archivist, Chestnut Hill Conservancy
Bartlett will dig into the Wissahickon from the archives and highlight such noteworthy  topics as the area’s Lenni Lenape; the milling industry, hotels, and inns in the Wissahickon Valley; the Centennial Exposition of 1876 and its effects on the park, the origins of the name “Forbidden Drive,” the arrival of FOW and its role in the park’s care, the Great Depression, the “period of stasis” (1950s-1960s) in the park’s decline, the Chestnut Hill Conservancy/ FOW joint easement program and more. Register here.
