A “Refreshed” Woodmere Re-Opens to the Public on September 4

After a brief closure to do some minor repairs to our current location, Charles Knox Smith Hall, Woodmere will re-open its doors to the public on Thursday, September 4 at 10 AM. Along with vibrant new exhibitions, the opening weekend offers several FREE events, including The Photo Review Opening ReceptionStraw Maze Opening, and a thought-provoking lecture, All We Have is Each Other: Black Artists and Collective Visions, with Bridget R. Cooks, PhD, Chancellor’s Fellow and Professor of African American Studies and Art History at the University of California Irvine. FREE admission will continue through Friday, October 3, 2025.

Dr. Cooks’ lecture will feature works by Black artists that inspire and are informed by our present and irrepressible past. Known for her scholarship on the representation of Black artists in the curatorial practices of museums, Dr. Cooks’ first book, Exhibiting Blackness: African Americans and the American Art Museum (2011), has become a foundational historical study of the positioning, inclusion, and exclusion of African American voices in museums. Studio Oil Painting

Sundays, September 14-October 19; meets 6 times

1:30 – 4:30 PM

Instructor: Stefanie Lieberman

$255 ($225 members)

This class is designed to help students execute a painting of their own subject matter and focuses on composition, perspective, color mixing, and painting techniques. Students can use photographs as source material to organize and create a painting, and may devote the entire session to one piece or work on multiple pieces. Botanical Watercolor

Wednesdays, September 17-October 22 (no class September 24); meets 5 times

Instructor: Ginger Mimmo Rohlfing

Learn how to capture the variety of shapes, colors and forms of plants and flowers with the free flow of watercolor. Students will sharpen their observational skills, create interesting compositions, and develop ways of mixing and layering color to encourage self-expression. This class is designed for the beginner to advanced student seeking to become comfortable with mark making, hoping to find enjoyment, awe, and ease in painting with watercolors, and enhancing their drawing and watercolor painting techniques. Register here.
