95th Annual Wissahickon Day Parade and Horse Show
Sunday, April 24
10AM ~ Rain or shine
Each year, on the last Sunday in April, folks have come to the Wissahickon to celebrate the fact that “Forbidden Drive” was successfully closed to cars in 1921 due to a protest that brought together hundreds of horses, ridden or pulling carriages. Fortunately, the initiative was defeated.
Wissahickon Day includes traditional equestrian events. A horse show at Northwestern Stables will start at 10 AM, featuring English and Western riders as well as carriages. A Fancy Hat competition will take place with prizes awarded in three categories: fancy, clever, funny. After the show, at 12 PM, parade line up begins and will proceed along Forbidden Drive.
So bring your cameras and be ready to show appreciation for the 4-legged animals that kept the 4-wheeled motor vehicles at bay!
