On Saturday, November 7, Musehouse will host ALL BUT TRUE: THE MUSEHOUSE FICTION SERIES and present two novelists who examine the lingering presence of those who have been lost.

Elise Juska’s novel The Blessings follows the lives of the Blessing clan, a large Irish-Catholic Philadelphia family, as they cope with the aftermath of the death of John Blessing, who also leaves behind a young widow and two small children. Spanning decades, the book focuses in each chapter on a different family member, as the reverberations of John’s death play out over the years. Publishers Weekly called this book “a deceptively simple tale that examines the foibles, disappointments, and passions that tie family members together.”

Rachel Pastan will read from her novel Alena, a gripping contemporary reworking of Daphne du Maurier’s classic Rebecca but set in the rarified world of the fine arts. An aspiring young curator accepts the unexpected offer of a position at a cutting-edge museum on Cape Cod, but soon finds herself confronted by the ever-present spirit of Alena, the beautiful, exotic woman whose position she has assumed. Shattering secrets, tested loyalty, and unexpected courage emerge as we follow this nameless young woman through this spellbinding tale.

This Musehouse event is free and open to the public and will include complimentary refreshments.
