“Cosmic Series 2022”

The Goldenberg Group and Gravers Lane Gallery proudly announce the opening of our second Philadelphia location. Branded as G.L.G. @ 1213 Walnut Street, the gallery is designed as a boutique exhibition and events venue located in the heart of the bustling Midtown Village, historically referred to as the Gayborhood.

We are so very pleased to present as the premiere exhibition, “Cosmic Series” 2022; works by long-time Philadelphia resident and internationally recognized sculptor and fiber artist, Yvonne Pacanovsky Bobrowicz. Cosmic Series 2022 is a sublimely beautiful, quiet, yet powerful installation with works spanning more than 6 decades.

Bobrowicz was a student at the prestigious Cranbrook School of Art. She settled in Philadelphia, and began teaching at Drexel University, where she was introduced to famed architect Louis Kahn. Kahn commissioned her to weave fabric for several of his projects. Subsequently Yvonne became friends with Anne Tyng, a long-time Kahn collaborator, who influenced her creative process. Bobrowicz was also afforded the opportunity to study with weaver and colorist, Annie Albers. These significant encounters fueled Bobrowicz’s artistic energy. Working on the loom was becoming too restrictive and slowly replaced by suspended forms. Monofilament, natural linen and gold leaf, literally and metaphorically, speak of the duality in nature: dark/ light, positive/negative.

Bobrowicz developed a rhythmic mathematical hand-knotting technique with monofilament. Influenced by Carl Jung’s writings, Quantum theories, synchronicity, archetypal phenomena and the collective unconscious, Bobrowicz’s work, which she categorizes as Cosmic or Celestial, captures that pure energy, and atomic motion: the physical and the metaphysical, the nature of reality, identity, and change.

Thanks to the following people for assisting with the opening of G.L.G@ 1213 Walnut Street. The staff at 1213 Walnut St. building.
