From the Executive Director Dear Neighbors and Friends of Chestnut Hill, Happy fall! the leaves are starting to turn and the weather (for the most part) is getting cooler – finally! The fall is always a busy time and this year is proving to be no different. Please check out all the upcoming events and activities. It is also shaping up to be a very busy time for Chestnut Hill’s development review committees. Be sure to mark your calendars with upcoming meetings on properties and projects seeking a recommendation for a variance. Ask The Experts Event by Chestnut Hill Conservancy and Chestnut Hill Community Association Chestnut Hill resident Allison DeCaro, a principal with the insurance brokerage firm Johnson, Kendall & Johnson, will join expert risk consultant Rick Albers in presenting the latest advances in automated home protections including fire and security systems, water mitigation, personal cyber security, and best practices when renovating or building a home. A free, virtual program, Ask the Experts addresses a featured topic by an expert on prevalent issues relating to historic home and landscape care. Ask questions; get solutions! Review of this project may be postponed, pending update from applicant. 2. 8622 Germantown Ave – Variance request for proposed two-family household living in commercial district Documents and plans will be uploaded as we receive them. Review of this project may be postponed, pending update from applicant. 3. 8410 Prospect Avenue – Variance request for the relocation of lot lines to subdivide one lot into two, and for the creation of an easement for the erection of a detached private residence and garage at the rear of the lot; existing structure to remain. This project was preliminary presented at the October 19, 2021 DRC meeting. It will then proceed through other committee reviews, including the Land Use Planning & Zoning Committee and the Historic District Advisory Committee, both meeting on November 4. Community Partners Events & Activities Household Hazardous Waste Event – final 2021 event Saturday, November 6 Household Hazardous Waste Event – final 2021 event Saturday, November 6 It’s the last Household Hazardous Waste Event of the year. Residents may drop off items labeled: toxic, flammable, corrosive or reactive at this event. Handling and disposing of hazardous waste materials requires a special set of regulations due to the potential damage the items can cause people, pets and the environment. New PA Department of Environmental Protection COVID protocols require residents to pre-register and schedule an appointment to drop off materials at an event. The final event is Saturday, November 6, 9am to 3pm at 3901 Delaware Ave. Computers are not accepted at any of the Household Hazardous Waste events as they can be taken to any of the Sanitation Convenience Centers during normal business hours. As a reminder, latex or water base paint is not hazardous and can be placed in the regular trash if the paint is dried up or solidified with an absorbent material, such as, kitty litter. Universal waste such as florescent light bulbs and lithium, rechargeable and lead-acid batteries can be dropped off in the new bulb or battery containers at the Sanitation Convenience Centers. Alkaline batteries can be disposed of curbside. Residents are encouraged to wrap tape around both ends of an alkaline battery as an added precaution. Waste materials generated by a business will not be accepted at any of the Household Hazardous Waste events or at Sanitation Convenience Centers.
