From the Executive Director

Dear Neighbors and Friends of Chestnut Hill,

Happy fall! the leaves are starting to turn and the weather (for the most part) is getting cooler – finally!

The fall is always a busy time and this year is proving to be no different. Please check out all the upcoming events and activities. It is also shaping up to be a very busy time for Chestnut Hill’s development review committees. Be sure to mark your calendars with upcoming meetings on properties and projects seeking a recommendation for a variance. You can learn about these requests at Zoning Projects Under Review – Chestnut Hill Community Association. Notice of meetings can also be found weekly in the CH Local.

Enjoy the fall weather and activities but please remember to take any and all precautions to stay healthy. We are all in this together!

Regards,

Household Hazardous Waste Event – final 2021 event Saturday, November 6

Household Hazardous Waste Event – final 2021 event Saturday, November 6

It’s the last Household Hazardous Waste Event of the year. Residents may drop off items labeled: toxic, flammable, corrosive or reactive at this event.

Handling and disposing of hazardous waste materials requires a special set of regulations due to the potential damage the items can cause people, pets and the environment. New PA Department of Environmental Protection COVID protocols require residents to pre-register and schedule an appointment to drop off materials at an event.

The final event is Saturday, November 6, 9am to 3pm at 3901 Delaware Ave.
Visit philadelphiastreets.com/hazardous-waste/ for a list of acceptable household hazardous waste and to pre-register for this event.

Computers are not accepted at any of the Household Hazardous Waste events as they can be taken to any of the Sanitation Convenience Centers during normal business hours. As a reminder, latex or water base paint is not hazardous and can be placed in the regular trash if the paint is dried up or solidified with an absorbent material, such as, kitty litter. Universal waste such as florescent light bulbs and lithium, rechargeable and lead-acid batteries can be dropped off in the new bulb or battery containers at the Sanitation Convenience Centers. Alkaline batteries can be disposed of curbside. Residents are encouraged to wrap tape around both ends of an alkaline battery as an added precaution. Waste materials generated by a business will not be accepted at any of the Household Hazardous Waste events or at Sanitation Convenience Centers.

For additional information, please visit the Streets Department’s website. For all City services, call 311.
