“A Letter from the Desk of Lilibet”

Dear readers,

This a letter to you from the desk of our beloved pig, Lilibet! This missive is the first in our new newsletter format – news direct to you from our little shoppe. Lilibet (pictured above) will be writing to you in long-form once a month, with small updates mixed in here and there. Her most important piece of news today? Go birds!

Our new arrivals this week, out on February 11th, include Anne Tyler’s Three Days in June, JoJo Moyes’ We All Live Here, and Marie Benedict’s The Queens of Crime. Debbie, our resident Benedict-head, can’t wait to devour The Queens of Crime; Áine picked up Three Days in June for a spell and is pleased to report it is delightful.

We are very excited about many titles coming later this month; you can check in with our social media pages (Instagram and Facebook) each Tuesday to see what has come out into the literary world and landed in the shop!

Currently Reading

We are also excited to introduce to you a new feature: what our booksellers are reading this month!

Debbie is reading North Woods by David Mason. I am liking it! You have to move through the first chapter to immerse yourself in the world; once in the world, you are taken on a journey unlike any other. Definitely a book read and digested best with a cup of tea.

Aidan is reading I Cheerfully Refuse by Leif Enger. I am a chapter in, but it’s good so far! I picked up this book because I love the cover (bookseller, meet adage), but I’ve found the writing style to be engaging and the chapter breakdowns to be interesting.

Áine is reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. I’m so excited to read this book. It’s been on my list for a while, and now reading it, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to actually pick it up. I love (love) heist-based plots, and Mistborn has bonus revolutionary, overthrown an empire spirit mixed in – so far, it’s a 10/10 from me.

Giulia is reading Good Material by Dolly Alderton. You know how some books say they’re laugh-out-loud funny but then… aren’t? Well, this is not one of those. This says it’s laugh-out-loud funny and it ACTUALLY is. If you come into the store and see me laughing to myself, there’s a good chance it’s about this book. A refreshing take on a break-up story that finds the humor in the obsessing over the why of it all.

Jordan is reading Somme by Lyn MacDonald. This book is very well-researched. It is a compilation of thousands of firsthand accounts of the Battle of the Somme simplified and put into an easily comprehended compendium. I am a lover and a reader of World War I history, and this book is great so far!

Upcoming Events

On February 19th, Kareem Rosser will join us to celebrate his book When You’re Ready. Commencing at 7:00 PM, this reading and signing event will introduce you to “an unforgettable and heartrending love story that will break your heart and piece it back together.” You can RSVP on our website by clicking the link below!
 Kareem Rosser
On February 22nd, Eileen McCafferty DiFranco will sign her book The Cost of Sainthood from 12:00-2:00 PM. Stop by to discover exactly who a saint is and what historically determined who became one. No RSVP is required for this event; just stop by the shop on February 22nd! More information available at the link below.
 Eileen McCafferty DiFranco
On February 26th, we will host Wendy Horwitz, who will read and sign her memoir Milkweed and Honey: A Memoir in Ritual Moments at 7:00 PM. “Lyrical and funny, thought-provoking and deeply moving, Milkweed and Honey Cake is at once a meditation on our desire for meaning and the story of a woman’s lifelong efforts to create it.” This is a ticketed event, so please visit our website at the link below to reserve your spot!
 Wendy Horwitz
On Valentine’s Day, we will have several specials for you and your loved ones!

Additionally, we will be closed on Presidents’ Day, February 17th, to take some much-needed R&R post Super Bowl victory week.

That’s all from the desk of Lilibet for this week!

Check in with our Instagram, Facebook, and website for more immediate updates as the month goes on.

Cheers,

Lilibet and the booked. team
